Language and culture

 

Patuakhali district has a rich cultural heritage. Folklore in this region is especially famous for Jari and Bhatiali. The following literary and cultural organizations exist in this district.

 

There are 31 cultural organizations in Patuakhali Sadar Upazila. Such as Patuakhali Theater, Sabuj Sangha, Shaheed Smriti Pathagar, Patua Sahitya Parishad, Sundaram, Likhan Sahitya Parishad, Bikiran Sahitya and Sanskritik Aangan, Pratibha Shilpi Gosthi, Lekhak Samonvay Parishad, Muktaprangan, Lekhak Adda, Kalkakali, Lok Sangeet Academy etc.Besides, branches of several national cultural and literary organizations exist in Patuakhali. Such as Khelaghor, Udichi Shilpi Gosthi, Rabindra Sangeet Sammilan Parishad, Nazrul Charcha Kendra, Jatiya Kabita Parishad, etc. There are 05 cultural organizations in Kalapara upazila and 08 in Dashmina upazila.

 

Shilpakala Academy is the heart of cultural activities in the district. There is a widespread practice of music, dance and painting. Patuakhali is inhabited by several tribal ethnic groups, notably the Magh and Chakma. Besides, there is Rakhine village of Kalapara upazila. They make different types of garments such as tat cloth, kamich, sari, lungi, towel etc.
